British Columbia health authorities have reported 324 new cases of COVID-19 – including 33 in Island Health – and seven deaths since the last update on 16 November.
One of the deaths recorded in the last 24 hours was in Island Health, bringing the area’s death toll to 116 after the pandemic began.
The number of confirmed cases in BC is now 213,682, while the death toll rises to 2,281.
There are currently 3,380 active cases in the province and 379 people are in hospital care, 109 of whom are in intensive care. According to authorities, there are also 479 active cases in the Island Health area.
A total of 207,779 people in BC have recovered from COVID-19, and 8,471,017 doses of vaccine have been administered provincially.

Although one new death was reported on Wednesday, raising the number of deaths in the Island Health area to 75 since mid-August, the number of active cases has fallen steadily.
There are currently 368 active cases in the area, according to the latest update to the Island Health dashboard. That is a 32 percent decrease from November 12 and 36 percent from November 1. Even with the use of BCCDC active case data, there has been a 21% decrease since 12 November, suggesting a very high number of cases.
Of the 368 active cases, 85 are in North Island, 198 in Central Island, and 85 in South Island. Active incidents in the South Island have also increased, falling from a record high of 342 on October 6 to 85 on Wednesday. Active incidents in North Island had been on the rise since mid-October, but now appear to be declining after peaking on 12 November, 111.
At the same time, a total of 54 people are currently hospitalized in the area for COVID-19 infection, 12 of whom are in intensive care.
In the last 24 hours, 1,122 new COVID-19 tests and 2,510 doses of vaccine were performed in Vancouver Island. Of these, 14 were AstraZeneca, 2,031 were Moderna and 465 were according to the Pfizer BCCDC dashboard.
A total of 1,406,176 doses of vaccine – 667,392 of which are second doses and 45,222 third doses or “other” doses – have been administered in Vancouver Island. This includes 34,886 doses of AstraZeneca, 427,176 doses of Moderna and 944,114 doses of Pfizer.
Since the start of the pandemic, 11,906 cases, 116 deaths, 630 hospitalizations and 11,277 cures have been reported in the Island Health area.
