Gunner said health authorities expect to receive the results of the cluster’s two genome sequences today.

“This is very important because it confirms whether clusters one and two are connected to each other. We still believe they are most likely to be connected,” he said.

Gunner said Katherine’s 71 percent vaccination rate is worrying.

“We need to see an increase in Katherine vaccination rates,” he said.

“I understand that the problem may be related to mobility, and we’ll be commissioning a local team to provide options today. I’ve asked for advice on site. I’ve seen a photo of the queue at our clinic. It may be that people were prioritizing testing and this is moving to vaccinations today.”

He has urged Katherine residents to encourage others to take the vaccine.

All 173 Robinson River residents have been tested for the virus, and most have been vaccinated.

“There are only 15 people left to get the first dose in Robinson River. I understand they all want to get vaccinated today,” Gunner said.
