MSR complements the Acura DPi range with Blomqvist

Meyer Shank Racing has taken an aggressive approach to complete its No. 60 list for the Acura ARX-05 DPi, which competes in IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. After hiring British rocket Oliver Jarvis for the first half of MSR’s new full-time duo, the team signed a second inspired deal with British Swedish driver Tom Blomqvist. The 27-year-old son of Royal Rig Stig Blomqvist brings tremendous experience to MSR after serving as a factory BMW driver in the DTM, FIA World Endurance Championship and WeatherTech Championship, as well as competing in the FIA ​​Formula E Series and extensive racing. various international GT and prototype events.

Blomqvist also finished second in the LMP2 class in Le Mans ’24-hour drive in August and made a deep impression on MSR in a recent test that eventually led him to be bought by stable owners Mike Shank and Jim Meyer.

“I’m really excited to join Meyer Shank Racing for the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship,” Blomqvist said. “MSR has proven to be one of the best racing teams in the United States, and at Acura DPi, I’m pretty sure we have a great foundation for next year’s success.

“I have previous experience of racing in the United States since 2019 and prototypes this year at the WEC, so I hope to be able to leverage that experience to get up to speed next year!”

Jarvis and Blomqvist will replace the outgoing Danish Cameron, who will return to Roger Penske’s organization for the upcoming Porsche Penske Motorsports LMDh program, and Olivier Plaa, whose term at MSR ended before the end of last weekend’s season at Petit Le Mans.

Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud, drivers of MSR’s NTT IndyCar Series, are expected to meet the team’s IMSA needs for the long races on the WeatherTech Championship calendar.
