MOORESVILLE, NC – Chase Briscoe earned Newcomer of the Year honors in the NASCAR Cup this season, giving the Indiana driver a hat trick as he had previously won new awards in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. .

“I never thought in a million years that I would be able to run in one Truck Series race, let alone win a rookie of the year now in all three,” Briscoe said. “It’s very humiliating. It’s very special to be one of the few guys who has won it in all three, it’s also really special. I’m glad the first year is over. There was definitely a lot of growth pain and lessons to be learned, but hopefully this is just the first of many Cup series for years and I can keep doing it.

While driving the 14th Ford in Stewart-Haas Racing, Briscoe admitted that the transition from the Xfinity Series to the Cup Series was a difficult transition.
“The biggest thing is how competitive it is. You hear all the time how hard the Cup series is, and for me it was really true how good everyone is, and if you think about it, everyone from the first place in the Cup level to the really top 30 have won at every level they’ve been at, and they’ve been guys who have won their entire careers, ”he said,“ It’s just a really competitive series.

“I feel like the race for 20th place in the Cup Series is one of the hardest races you can do anywhere in the world, so for me, it was the biggest thing about how perfect you need to be,” Briscoe said. . “There’s a rare group of guys, I would say just four or five guys a week, who can get penalties, get in the race, lose all their track positions and still drive back to the front. In addition, you have to do everything perfectly to get into the top ten and get the position of that track.

Briscoe acknowledged that Stewart-Haas Racing’s overall performance was disappointing this season, but pointed out that everything will turn into next season with the debut of the next-generation racing car in February.

“On the performance side, it wasn’t a year that any of us hoped or even expected,” Briscoe said. “I know we’re trying to turn it around and I heard you say which direction we’re going, I don’t know yet what is the right direction with this car, but I say I feel that so far, how Next Gen – the tests have gone smoothly, i feel like we have been really good at speed.

“You never know what guys look like or what guys don’t look like, but I feel like we’re in a good place now. I think we’ll know more this Wednesday and Thursday when we go testing, so hopefully we’ll keep going fast, but I feel like we’ve been really good in terms of speed so far, but it’s hard to say what’s going to happen.

“No one knows what this car is going to be like or what it’s going to drive 100 percent,” Briscoe added. “Whatever team comes up with it, I think it has a huge advantage for a while. I hope we are that team and we have definitely spent a lot of time on this car and tried to figure out what it likes, so hopefully we can be the team to find it first.
