  • Oppo has officially released the Reno 7 series in China.
  • The Reno 7 Pro has a cat’s eye camera on the front, a 50 megapixel sensor on the back and a “breathable” notification light.
  • The price starts at 3,699 yuan.

Oppo briefly teased parts of the Reno 7 series camera earlier this week, talking about its “cat’s eye” technology, which was developed in collaboration with Sony. Now the mid-range equipment family is official. The Reno 7 series will debut at an event in China on Wednesday, and as promised, the latest mid-range series will feature some interesting camera equipment both front and rear.

There are a total of three models available, including the SE base option, the average regular child and the premium Pro model in the range. They are all aesthetically similar, and have “star rain” patterns called Oppo on their backs. The color options include a gold, black, and blue / purple combination called “Rainforest,” which is likely to use the finish best. The camera island is surrounded by a handy notification light that also takes advantage of the space normally lost.

Oppo Reno 7 Series: Specifications

Understandably, the specifications of the three phones differ slightly. The Reno 7 Pro features MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Max SoC combined with 8/12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also has a 4,500 mAh battery that charges with a 65 watt charger. The front has a 6.55-inch 90 Hz AMOLED display. The Reno 7, on the other hand, uses the Snapdragon 778G and is also available with a 128GB storage option. It is powered by the same battery and includes the same charging features, but is content with a smaller 90 Hz display at 6.43 inches.

The big addition to both phones in particular is the cat eye camera mentioned above. It is based on the Sony IMX709 32 megapixel sensor that uses the RGBW array. Oppo argues that this shooter should bring better light sensitivity and lower noise levels to selfie users. It could also be pretty good for video calling as well. At the rear, the Oppo Reno 7 Pro uses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 camera for primary photography tasks, and 8-megapixel and 2-megapixel shooting cameras for ultra-wide shots and macros. The standard Reno 7 boasts a 64-megapixel snapper, while the SE has a 48-megapixel sensor.

The other specifications of the Reno 7 SE are also less impressive, as it has a Dimensity 900 SoC, a 4,390 mAh battery and a 33 W charge. Used by its siblings, the 32-megapixel selfie camera offers a 16-megapixel sensor instead. However, the phone has the same 6.43-inch 90 Hz display as the Reno 7.
